Got a complete kit for my 10g... had to replace the filter after a month-it sucked... course we bought the kit before we found this site... by the time we bought our 55gal we had read a LOT of posts and knew we wanted to buy our own components... we bought everything individually for that one. And made our own canopy, too.

I don't like any kit. Although I did by my 55g as a kit.] Hated myself 1 week later when I found the same thing used with a stand for less.

Looked @the kits....don't really like them. Even though some of them "come with everything" there are still things that need to be purchased (stand, substrate, fish ) even without upgrading you'll still need to spend more than the sticker price.

As I recall, it was a 20 gal we furnished with an Aquaclear 300 and some mid-level heater. In a kit it would probably have been some mini and a dangerously cheap heater.

Both my tanks came from kits.

The 10 gal came with a penguin mini filter, filter media, a 100w heater from Hagen and a couple of plastic plants.

The 20 gal came with an aquaclear 200 filter, filter media, and a higher wattage Hagen heater. I think it might have been 150w but I'm not sure. I accidently killed it when I forgot to unplug it when doing a water change.

Oh, I forgot, they had tank thermometers too.

i think i started with 12x6x6 tank. Followed by several dozen goldfish.

When i started seriously, i purchased a bowl, a filter, an airpump and a betta... 2 of which were unnecessary.

Which of the two selections did you do when you purchased your first tank?

When I first started, all I wanted was a Betta. So I bought a 2 gallon hex kit. The tank was cracked.]:| I returned it, and got another cracked tank. And then, it happened again. After complaining to the company I ended up with two good 2 gallon kits for the price of one. So even though the kits are crap, I still made out.

Well it wasn't hard to go for this vote. I started off with a little tank then went bigger and bigger and each increase required bigger of everything. I bought things as I could afford them.
