Help I have a rouge Gourami | |
eilishblue Small Fry Posts: 3 Kudos: 5 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Sep-2005 | I have just started out with tropical fish. The guy at the aquarium store said that angels & gouramis were compatible fish I have two gouramis one light opulessant blue with an orange shimmer the other is orange with an electric blue top fin, I also had three black & white angel fish which the orange gourami singled out each one biting their fins and chasing them around the tank until they each died one after the other, he even kept attacking them when they were dead. I don't know what to do as I would like more than two fish in my tank?Anyones help with this would be greatly appreciated. |

Sometimes you get the odd fish with an extra nasty personality, might be best to take the agressor back to the store and get another. I'm not familiar with gouramis but I do know that some tend to be nastier than others. Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes. |

They are both moderately aggressive fish, and they usually roam the same parts of the tank and are after the same foods, so there is bound to be territoriality issues. If you have no more angels, then I'd say keep the gouramis and get some lower level fish like large cory cats or loaches. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

Many get along just fine with angels provided there's enough space and some won't share their tank with anyone. It's hard to say whether adding another gourami would upset your current one, if the new gourami won't turn out to be even more agressive, or if everyone will get along just fine. I've kept several gouramis to a tank before and with angelfish but my current blue gourami male won't even share the 90g with a female of the same species. |

I was thinking of adding some to my second tank when I upgrade it from a 20-gallon long to a 29-gallon, but now I'm not so sure. I already have 5 Platys, 2 Ottos, a Black Molly, a Clown Loach, and a few Neon Tetras. Sounds like there could be trouble if I try to add Gouramis...[/font] |

Dwarf gouramis can be really nasty, suprisingly. Blue gourami types..can be extremely mild..or extremely nasty. I've had Pearl Gouramies with an Angelfish successfully. |
