gouramis always fighting | |
maximadriver Fingerling Posts: 28 Kudos: 29 Votes: 0 Registered: 02-Nov-2004 | ok. i have a 29 gallon i've had set up for a few months now. i had 4 dwarf gouramis in it, but one of them died (i think it was foul play). the 3 of them that are left constantly fight amongst themselves. they don't bother the ohter fish in the tank, but just whenever one goes somewhere, the ohter 2 seem to want to follow and they always cause trouble. it's not just one doing it, it's all of them. one is deffinately the alpha, but they all just can't seem to be happy together. any ideas what would settle them down? |

Is you tank planted and areas where they can call their own? If it is always same one I personally get rid of it and replace it with another one if that is possible. Some times one can be very aggressive. When I buy any fish I will watch the tank for some time trying to eliminate having any aggressive fish in my tank. The males are territorial and do chase each other around. I had two in my 29 gal tank and they each staked out one end of the tank for themselves, often meeting in the middle. If its just one giving you a problem you can try exchanging him (I hate that) or try planting more broad leafed plants. They love them. Its funny, I had to move my pair of males into a ten gallon tank, with a small rubbernose plec and my last molly (only a temporary move, till I get another tank) and they get along great in the small tank, MUCH better than they did in the bigger one. |

It's better to have 1 male & 2 females. http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
