So I came home last night to find that three of my juvenile balloon mollys eating my mystery snail. I have seen them eat small snails in my tank (pests if you will) but never anything that big. Is this common for mollys? I feed them quite well so I am not sure if this is common behavior.

Since Live Bearers are omnivores, I'm not surprised by this. I never had snails ( I hate those pests ) so I am not speaking from experience but my LB love blood worms from time to time. As you know, "greens" should be fed to them normally. But as a treat, they will gladly chew on blood worms... and snails it seems !

it seems to me that the mollies wouldnt KILL the snail right off, but if the snail died for some reason, i could definately see them picking at its remains, my mollies pick algae off walls, and just about pick at everything it seems...

i imagine the snail has one of those little flap things it can close itself in, if in harm, so... i'd say its likely to say the snail died first.

I would think that the snail had died and the fish were doing what they do naturally.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

in agreement on that one. the snail will hide in its shell if threatened...so i would say the snail bit the big one before the mollies got at it.
