65 gal. tank with fantasy castle background | |
illustrae Fish Addict Posts: 820 Kudos: 876 Registered: 04-May-2005 | In a few threads I've mentioned my 65 gallon tank, decorated with just anubias and bog wood (an da few pots of crinium or jungle vals) with it's fantasy castle poster background. The tank is 36 inches long and 24 inches tall (and 18 inches wide), which happens to be the size of a standard poster, so I found one I liked and taped it to the back of the tank for a very neat effect, IMO. This tank was set up about 9 months ago to house my common pleco that I've had for about 6 years now. I think he's been very happy in the 65 gal. tank, as he's grown to a little over 10 inches and is constantly patroling all parts of the tank. Sharing this space are 8 SAEs each around 3 inches long at this point. I bought 9 of them almost a year ago, expecting to lose half of them during shipping because I was told they were delicate. But I didn't lose a single one during shipping, and only one has died in the months I've had them. They are very schooly, chasing and following each other all around the tank, and pestering the other inhabitants. Originally, I wanted 4-5 gold marble Angelfish to finish off the tank's population, and I had a wonderful group of 6 juveniles that I was hoping would pair off into one or two pairs, but a power outage caused temperature fluctuations that were too extreme for the young angels, and I lost all but one. Ironically, the one that survived was the runt of the group, and is still getting himself into trouble... but he just won't quit. I recently had the opportunity to buy a variety of 10 Rainbowfish; all different types of juvenile rainbows. The guy I bought them from was even kind enough to send me 12. The tank is now very, very full of color and movement, and is a real joy to watch for hours. There are also 5 little crayfish in there: Procambarus hinei--Eastern Marsh Crayfish. They are tiny, at about 2 inches long each, and do not harm fish at all. They are detrius eaters who find food in the pebble substrate and picking it out of the nooks and crannys in the bogwood. Here's some pics. I hope you like them. The streaks are due to a bubble wand that goes across nearly the whole back of the tank. http://www.dartmouth.edu/~illustrae/Aquaria/pictures/pict0028_45.jpg More rainbows and the streak of an SAE http://www.dartmouth.edu/~illustrae/Aquaria/pictures/pict0048_67.jpg And the last li'l Angel http://www.dartmouth.edu/~illustrae/Aquaria/pictures/pict0046.jpg Last edited by illustrae at 19-Dec-2005 10:25 Last edited by illustrae at 19-Dec-2005 10:26 Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

That looks great, the positioning of the castle in relation to the plants is great, it really gives the perspective that makes it seem like the castle is far off in the distance and the plants are part of some forest or something *gets carried away*... I had some in my 55g when I first set it up, but none made it. I even tied it to the DW, which I thought was better than attaching it to stones. Don't know what happened there. That background is great. Very nice looking tank, and fishies. |

I got them all at http://www.aquariumplant.com, though in the future I'll probably get my anubias from Aquabid because they were very expensive, though of wonderful quality and they sent extras, so perhaps it evens out.
