A sampling of Molly's stay-at-home fish - strong 56K warning! | |
littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | I got some okay shots of a few fish while I was home, thought I'd share ... Glofish: TERRIBLE shot but really shows how colorful they are (I ought to pretend I planned it this way for artistic effect, I suppose!): The brand new Lepidiolamprologus hecqui: A new shot of the larger occie: The new tank (the hecquis forced out the occies, and the julie temporarily, so what's a girl to do? ): A new shot of the 125: And the julie: Errrr ... hope that wasn't too many! I really like those and I've been thinking of redoing my 10G for shellies. Last edited by mattyboombatty at 18-Oct-2004 15:32 Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | The julies are a rockdweller, but - much as I love my shellies - they're definitely worth some consideration. A pair of one of the dwarf species would do well in a 10 (IMO), and they're certainly gorgeous. Love mine, anyway - I've been thinking about getting a couple more and hoping for a pair but probably won't, the tank he's in belongs to my hecqui, who wants a pair of julies harassing them? Less likely to take over than the brichardi would if he got a girl (or she got a guy, whichever it is) but still a possible problem, so I'll probably leave him a bachelor. Um, that was long-winded, sorry! -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

I also like the tank with all the tall val at the back it seems to give the tank extra depth (front- back). littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | Thanks, Keith. The real problem with the val is keeping it contained! When I got home for break after a month and a half away, the tank was stuffed with vals. I'm planning to put it some kind of substrate barrier between the back 4-5" and the rest of the tank, hidden by the midground plants, to contain the runners somewhat. I used to have to keep my stargrass in milk-jug-bottoms because it would take over (::Molly realizes she has unregulated stargrass in another tank, and worries briefly, this ought to work the same way ... one hopes. Oh, and I've been trying out my sister's camera although the dying battery didn't give me much time with it (a charger is on order) and think the results will be very, very nice ... here's a quick shot of Carson, for example (through a thick, curved vase with no prep, so don't get your hopes up! ) Hope that charger arrives soon ....[/font] -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

See I'm a little frustrated with the current moslty non-existant occupants, and I may be getting a new fish or two in exchange. It's a 20G long, good water conditions, and I'm in B-lo so you know what the water is like. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

And last time I was in The Fish Place they had a tank full of nice transc But you won't be trading in that lovely Ram with the long fins, right? Find someplace to keep him if so, he's too gorgeous to trade. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

I'd be trading in my rummys and apistos, not very social fish. would the julies use the wood and pvc caves, or do they only hang around in the rocks? I looked around, but haven't gotten all the info for the julie. Was the scientific name julidochromis dickfeldi? I know it's a tang cichlid, but what do they eat? Is the transc Last edited by mattyboombatty at 20-Oct-2004 18:17 Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | In a 20? Well ... actually I was just reading a thread on cichlid-forum in which someone whose opinion I trust recommended a pair of brichardi and a pair of leleupi in a 20 long. I still wouldn't do that, but I think it's a good indication that something like a pair of leleupi or a shellie species could safely be housed with the pair. (The shellies I would've said were okay in any case). -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

I was having a hard time getting anything on those guys, especially compatibility. This new setup sounds like it could be very rewarding. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |
