There are quite a few of my new Corydoras similis. Checkerboard cichlid. Freshwater limpet crawling and cleaning the glass. Corydoras cf. paleatus. Stupid Panaque trying to get to a wafer stuck in a plant. Peckoltia sp. L163. SAE (and others) eating a shrimp. Corydoras similis just hanging out. New growth on Similis dorsal fin. But he loves the shrimp, so I'm going to start putting them in more often and hopefully he'll fatten up some more. EDIT: Just looked at the photo again, and realized that it makes the pleco look skinnier than he really is. It's a bowfront tank, so it distorts the shape of the fish a lot of the time - he's not really that skinny. I also did a crappy job at resizing the photo and made it too elongated. Where did you manage to find the limpet? I have never seen them for sale in my area, but I wouldn't mind looking into having a couple. Thanks! |

Natalie Ultimate Fish Guru Apolay Wayyioy Posts: 4499 Kudos: 3730 Votes: 348 Registered: 01-Feb-2003 | Thanks for the comments! THe limpets were just on the availability list as "abalone snails", and we didn't know what they were. Me and my manager have a taste for the rare, so we decided to order a bunch of them just to find out what they were. We got them in, and it turned out they were freshwater limpets (thanks to LifeNoodles for identifying them). We didn't know anything about them, even what part of the world they came from, but the manager heard that they were good for planted tanks because they are scavengers and don't eat plants. So I bought four of them for my tank, and they are doing really well. You guys are in luck though... Last night I got some good shots of one crawling from the gravel onto the glass and back again, so you can actually see their faces. I'll post them later today when I get home. They are awesome animals though, and they are essentially just snails with clam shells on their backs instead of spiral ones. I think I am going to pick up a few more tomorrow when I'm at work. In the last picture, she is starting to get her angry colors because she hates the camera. Limpet crawling onto the glass. Limpet crawling back onto the gravel. For those of you who don't know plecos, it's pretty unusual to see them sitting peacefully together like this. Usually if they get too close to one another they will start fighting.
