I recently gave a 6 gallon Eclipse to a friend. Obviously it's hers to decorate, but the results are ... maybe not what I would've done!
Still, it came out pretty cute for something so, er, highly decorated, and there was room enough for a few shells, so that's okay. Here 'tis:

And the pair of fish I've given her for it:
Male

Female

So, my kind of fish even if it's not quite my kind of tank ...

I often wonder if some tank decorators are for them selves or the fish who have to live there.

Would they live in a room with all those non natural materials 24 hrs a day for their total life? I dought it.

I personally think that one is massivly over done. Yet each to their own opinion.

It's not my personal aesthetic, but I don't think it's bad for the fish. Wouldn't hurt me to live in a baby's room with bright colors everywhere, it just might not be my first choice. Besides - at least the colorful tank takes the place of colorful fish, so she won't feel the need to "supplement" with who knows what, guppies or something.

But mostly, yes, I completely agree - surprisingly ugly.

Neolamprologus brevis - one of my favorites to recommend. They're great because they have very small territories (so you can keep them in small tanks, a number in larger ones, and even in well-planned communities - livebearers and danios are especially good tankmate choices), are pretty, easy to find, and have "cute" behaviors. My friend is particularly enjoying the cohabiting - these fish, when they pair, move into one shell, usually the male's. When startled, she goes into the shell and then he follows, protecting her with his body. Sweet, eh? And older males develop lovely fin extensions, very graceful. All in all, a great shellie choice for almost anyone.

Why would you give away a tank Molly? Yeah it didn't turn out bad at all. I do prefer the more natural look myself.

I didn't - I bought it for her as a birthday present. Gave to, not gave away. Give away a tank? Certainly not!

Yeah, no ulterior motives here. Nah, but she's a very very close friend, and there was no other way to get her to stop laughing at my hobby!

Replace the pink plant with another green one, and the tank wouldn't be bad at all. Having a massive pink decoration, in any tank, will cause a huge distraction. At least to me it would.

The "stressed look" Brevis:

Is this what your LFS has? Normal non-breeding coloration. These guys, on the other hand, are definitely feelin' the love.

Also, these guys are Lunangwa, and most pet store brevis I've seen are Zebras, but it's not much difference really.
