Could Paint be blurring my images? | |
littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | Weird question, but it seems to me there's a difference in quality between looking at my photos at 25% in Image Expert and the shots I've actually made 25% in Paint - am I insane or is it possible? For example, I'd swear [link=this]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v464/LittleMousling/Fish/msimilis15.jpg" style="COLOR: #4040FF[/link] looks sharper as I'm looking at it now than that link (reduced in Paint) does. ARGH! If this is the case, I'm going to be mighty upset. I never save the full versions of photos - but I'm going to start, now! -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | Argh. I've been playing around to see how to keep the pictures sharp, and I noticed one of my tests was much sharper and more accurate than the others ... the bitmap file. Since nothing/no one allows bitmaps, I'll just have to resign myself to slightly blurred images. ARGH. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

With the camera you have and set at a high resoultion you should be getting a better result. I suggest take the camera to ??? and get it checked to make sure it is working and set correctly. Also I have contacted LittleMousling privately re helping photo resizing and adjustments Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | I honestly don't think it's the camera - I've been pleasantly surprised with how sharp some of the full-size pictures are. Yes, a lot of them are tiny files but I'm not sure what the alternative is. I don't really find that huge pictures are terribly useful - or should I be keeping the huge ones and then posting them as < img src = "address" length = whatever width = whatever" > and letting that resize it? And that part's not just Paint - every program I've reduced it to that size with drops it to 8 kb as a jpg. And, erm, Keith - I think any blown-up photo will look bad. But I can start with the full-size photo and work down to merely big, so I don't get distortions. Or is that not what you were saying? Here's a full-size (but cropped) jpg - still a little blurry (the full-size bitmap was waaaaaaaaaaay too big a file to put up online) but I think it shows that even at larger sizes the "blur" isn't the photo, it's the slight blurring of the jpg conversion. Is there a format in between? Not huge, but sharper? Last edited by LittleMousling at 29-Sep-2004 06:43 -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

vuduchild Big Fish Posts: 304 Kudos: 75 Votes: 5 Registered: 05-Feb-2003 | JPEG is a format on which you can set the quality of the files, an 100% quality.. all the way down to 1% quality, this will drasticly affect the file size. You should never use MS Paint to work with your digital photos it really is a peice of rubbish software for that type of thing, you should have recieved some sort of image editing software with your camera? If not search for some online or download some trials from Adobe.com All full color (photographs) should be saved as JPEG when used online... i can post some links so you can read more about what each compression (lossy, lossless) does if you like.. deal with this all the time at work. (web dev.) Also, when inserting images I would really advise against using the <img width height> variables to adjust the size of your image, it will just distort the image and make it look like crap, its best to create the image in the exact size and format you wish and just link to it directly without those tags, in my opinion anyway.. give this program a try out if you have the time, ACDSee, http://www.acdsystems.com |

I just changed the levels of coloring a little bit, which I think brings them out a little bit better. Sizewise it is about half the size of the big one you linked to in your post above. |

I worked this from a full size direct of the camera. Just enhancement and a focus sharpen but no colour alterations at all.
