Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | As sometimes happens (well most of the time actually), I went into the lfs to buy my son a Betta to replace the one we lost a few months ago, and I came out with more than a Betta. Son's Betta (he is open to suggestions for a name): One of 4 sterbai corydoras I bought for myself: And... GT are you watching? One of Five (5!) Ottocinclus. The business end of the algae eating Otto: |

As usual, just when I finally decide that I want to get some ottos not one of my LFS have any or look to be getting any in the near future. Great pics BTW, and a lovely looking betta. Keith was right in your other thread... you should just buy the whole darn place; the owner of your current LFS must rub his hands together with glee every time you walk in the store! I did almost go out the door after just buying the Betta and just like I always do I said yell out if you ever have any ottos in. Blow me down, he said hang on I do have some Ottos tucked away somewhere. He had 5 so I got them all. Since I already blew my budget I thought I might as well go the whole hog and get some Sterbai too. |

They might be pricier than aeneus, but when they breed you can get it all back and more! -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

If you want a nice, active bottom feeder, Corys fit the bill like few other catfish. They are the main activity my bottom has during the day (once night falls all my nocturnal fish come out to play). Even in a 125 gallon aquarium my sterbai are zooming back and forth. The pandas are a little more reserved but they hardly ever just plain sit still. As far as catfish go they're not only great for beginners due to their hardiness, but also because they will swim in obvious sight instead of hiding and never being seen again. I recommend Corys to anyone, I can't believe I went so long without ever keeping any. You could do loaches instead, though... They can be rather active. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | I have my orders, "get on the internet and find out how to breed bettas", courtesy of my son. His betta male (still unnamed) has made itself a bubblenest overnight. I have never seen one before and it looks like bubbles and bubbles of spit in a clump on the surface of the water. Every so often the betta parks himself under it. I guess I would need to find a female betta soon? |

I am jealous because I can never find those teal bettas at any of my LFS. brandeeno Mega Fish Posts: 929 Kudos: 636 Registered: 13-Sep-2007 | you dont need to buy him a female, he will be fine without, but if you do but him a female you should buy a 5g to breed the bettas in... put the male in, let him make the nest. then condition the femal in a glass chimeny... feed live bloodworms and othe high quality foods, when she is ready she wil jump out of the chimeny (make sure the chimey's water level is higher than the tank's.... and also provide places for her to hide after the act has been done(plants...) vare bottom is best, and also you will want a sponge filter not a power. no gravel or sand, bare bottom. make sure you have BBS, Daphnia, and etc for fry and out grow cups once the sex is apparant... hmmm anything else.... nope. thats about it for all my knowledge... \\\\\\\"an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure\\\\\\\" |
