Thanks, guys!

Believe it or not, this is condsidered to be an EXTREMELY slow-growing species. And since I only barely upped the temperature (a degree or two) and didn't increase water changes (weekly), the cause of the growth is certainly the multiple daily feedings. I've been giving them crushed Newlife Spectrum about 3-6 times a day, depending on how often I'm in the dorm.

Compared to my recent batch of similis fry, which were fed only once a day, these guys ... actually, these guys at about a month old are VERY swiftly catching up in size with the similis, who are nearly 6 months old.

Oops. From now on, all fry get fed multiple times a day, even if the literature swears they'll be slow-growing no matter what I do.

Fantastic Maco photos as usual what hormones are you feeding those babies they seem to grow very fast. I assume in the wild it is grow to survive.

All of these are "Dad" with his fry.

This one, soon after Mom kicked them out of her territory:

This one, taken only FOUR days later:

And only three days after that (at this point the fry are slightly under a month old, best guess):

I guess I can vouch for how well multiple daily feedings, a high temperature, and not-over-the-top frequent water changes work for a "slow-growing" species.

Yes, take it from someone with (oh, dear!) seven shelldweller species - they're addictive!

I wish these were in fact a colonial shellie! Nah, my reverse trio is quite enough for the 20. They're very friendly, generally, with the fry (of whom there are 21) but I think the truce will be over within a month or two.

*bounces around* I was talking to my friend who owns the SW lfs today, and he still orders me FW fish and things when I need or want them and sells them to me for cost... anyway, I mentioned shellies and he said he has a friend who owns two varieties. He was not 100% sure of which kinds she had (as he is a SW guy, and not all that interested in FW), but he is going to get in touch of her for me and I may be getting some!

SIN! I could not look away! ACK! LOL!

Newlife Spectrum. And like I said, I put the growth down entirely to multiple daily feedings.
