I have the Coolpix 2100 and I like it a lot. It's my first digicam, but it takes crisp images. I can only imagine that the 4600 would be even better. Here's a pic I recently took with mine.

i think keithgh has that camera, you might want to check his threads here and see what you think of that camera's potential

I just read clownygirl's thread and Keithgh's is a 4500, but im sure it wont make much difference. His photos always come out great, probably more to do with the photagrapher than the camera

Butterfly Photo has it for $173, which is right in my range

Sorry katieb I am purely a point and shoot type of photographer it id that I take a lot of time and try to frame my photos. Yes I have the 4500 no longer in production and certainly a lot more than that price.

Before you buy check out all the basic extras if any at all.
Rechargable batteries & recharger, etc. Size of card it could come with a very small card (basicaly useless) as it will only take a few photos when set to the full resolution.

I just paid a lot more than that for a repair (caused by the tropics) I would go up to a higher model as you will not be satisfied in the end and will end up buying a beter model. I waited an extra year to get that model and I am very happy with it.

I good recharger and a spare battery and good sized card would be worth more than that camera. Think twice act once

Do you have any suggestions for a good camera that isn't too expensive? Im thinking less then $300.

TIA - Katie

I suggest you read this thread first then establish exactly what you want to photograph and what you want to after taking the photos. All these factors will help you work out the most suitable camera for you.
