bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | Hi all, Came back from a vacation to find the tank had grown out of control. Found my poor Angelfish stuck in a tangle of plants. He's fine now. So some serious trimming had to be done. Thought while I was at it I'd give a big overhaul I'd been planning. Moved the Crypts from the front to the right hand side. Nightmare - roots and runners everywhere. They took it well no melting. Moved the Lotus and Apon Crispus to the back and the anubias from the side to the front. Alot more open space then previously and more viewing room. I tried to move the big sword. Darn thing wouldn't budge It's probably rooted to the glass by now. Anyway hope you like it. Any questions just fire away. bensaf attached this image: Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

Swords that size usually have roots that go all the way through the tank, you won't get it out without either leaving lots of it's roots behind in the substrate, or by totally disrupting the entire tank, which will be very messy. All in all I think your tank looks pretty good , but what happened to all those lovely red plants you used to have? |

bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | Thanks guys glad you like it. BTW it's not for rent Doc, That's what I reckoned. While I really don't like where the sword is, completely throws the aquascape off balance, I'm not willing to tear the tank down to move it. The previous red plants. Well there was some Ludwigia Arcuata and Nessea. The Arcuata was doing ok , the bottom would get bare fairly quickly and it grows very strangely , very wide at the top and slowly getting narrower as it goes down, kind of like an upside down triangle. It just didn't fit and I grew tired of dealing with it. The Nessea is an incredibly difficult plant, it needs tons of of micros to do well. It was doing fine until the vacation and then 2 weeks without micro dosing and it was looking pretty ragged. I tried to get some more but can't be found (it's hard to get anyway). I've added some Ammania Gracillis (in the middle) which I thought might be a nice contrast it's more of an orange then a red.Otherwise very similar in appearance to the Nessea. Also I think it will look really well with the Repens just in front of it. This was stuck in a corner and lost it's orange color. But's that's coming back nicely noe that it's under the light, In a couple of weeks I think they'll look great together. It's not the easiest but doing well, Co2 is a neccessity, grows like lighting and got stems like tree trunks. I really like it this way and doubt there'll be any further changes (but I keep saying that :88)) Last edited by bensaf at 15-Feb-2005 09:06 Last edited by bensaf at 15-Feb-2005 19:08 Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |
