Im also not really sure how "rare" females are. I had 3 rams and 1-2, male - female ratio and they seemed to get along fine, but one female always hids in the corner. And yes bolivians tend to be very picky. Sometimes it only takes 2 females and others the male wont spawn with any. Judging by that picture your rams dont seem to be fighting much. That could be good for you or bad for you. Either, they like each other and feel that they can live together fine, or they are already paired *probably not* If the male starts to chase and nip the female, that's normal. I think it is part of there mating ritual thingy. The male cichlid like sorta "tests" the female to see if she is a suitable mate. Good luck Rams are fun fish. HTH [edit] By the way. The extensions on the males fins may become very long and are absolutely amazing when he matures and is full grown. Just something to look foreward to Last edited by Nameless at 03-Feb-2005 19:25 |

Sin in Style Mega Fish Posts: 1323 Kudos: 1119 Votes: 165 Registered: 03-Dec-2003 | so going by these rules by all rights i got a male and a female. are females rare cuz i picked this one out of a tank of 15+ fish and it was the ONLY one i thought could be a female by the same traits. Edit: BTW, what are the odds are the 2 pairing up if they are the only rams in the tank lol. ive heard bolivians can be picky about mates and be in a tank with 5 females and never spawn with any of them. I circled in red, the things you can look for in males, and in blue the things you look for in females. The fins are more pointed and will grow extensions where i have circled in red for the male. The female, however, will keep rounded fins and will stay smaller than the male. Nameless attached this image: |

I had a little play with them, and they also came up very grainy as well. Was it a camera setting or a photoshop problem. RustyBlade I only have two rams in my in my tank and find them the easest to photograph all you have to do is be well prepared and anticipate their next move which is usually not far away.
