Very nice, and truely that is some red anal fin. Almost too red to be natural (meaning dyed). What kind of Rams are they supposed to be? Any idea about their latin name?

That definitely is Mikrogeophagus altispinosus, the Bolivian or in this case "red" ram. This is the species which shares the genus Mikrogeophagus with the blue or German rams. Completely undyed.

Nice critters, and not too difficult to breed, either. Good pickup!

Sirbooks is correct, on both the species, and the dyeing. They are naturally that bright (that tank is quite dim), are a bit bigger , tougher, and more laid back than the blue rams. Excellent choice for a beginner cichlid Im thinking, probably much better than blue or golds for personal toughness. Somebody ought to tell the blue ram theyre not the same species though, he seems more than a little interested in the girls!

Not that theyre having any of it!
