He was the smallest of four, but oddly enough lasted the longest. I had him four years and they must have been three years old when I got them. No-one at the shop or locally knew how to look after them, so I guess they did ok, but I cant help but feel I failed them a little, I would loved to have seen babies. If I had another big shrimp id definately go for a less specialist feeder next time, although you couldnt ask for a less intrusive cagemate for small fish. They were interesting, but I didnt see them often, they preferred to hide behind bogwood or by the filter outflow catching food. They were rubbish scavengers though, and to keep them well fed I had to feed them liquid foods and baby brineshrimp by tube. They were safe with even the smallest fish. They never even touched baby neons. They cohabited with amanos ok too, even allowing them to take algae from his armour. After his death and during his ill period the amanos ceased to clean him, as you can probably tell from the picture. They never touched his feeding filaments, as you can see after death, theyre still intact, and he could have crushed an amano easily, but they seemed happy enough living symbiotically. They used him for cover while he was rooting around, and they cleaned him up. It was quite sweet and practical too. Shrimps know stuff! |
