A sword plant will get way too big for my tank. That piece of drift wood takes up almost half of the floor space.

Keith, Thanks for the input! I should have mentioned that this is a complete redo, all the plants other than the ferns and crypts are brand new and the tank still has a lot of filling in to do. Prior to this I was only 1.1 wpg and that didn't give me much options for plants so I used A LOT of crypts and java ferns mixed with silk plants. I'll put a pick on later today of what it looked like before.

I now have 2.4 wpg so this past weekend I decided to chunk all the silk and half the crypts and most of the ferns. A trip to the LFS and 2 days later you have the tank you see now.

I will be upgrading soon to another CF light that will push me to over 3wpg.....I can't wait!

I did a couple of things, first I started with adjusting the levels (Image - adjustments - levels) a bit, to get the colors a little bit bitter. Then I made a new layer in which I copied the entire image. On this layer I used: Filter - Blur - Average, which turns the entire layer an ugly color green (in this case), I then Inverted the layer (ctrl-i), and adjusted it to "overlay" the original layer. The colors then usually look a whole lot better. I finalized it by adding an adjustment layer - photo filter and played around until it looked good. I then flattened the whole image and still played around a little bit with: Image - adjustments - shadow/highlight.

It's a couple of steps, but takes less than a minute, the result is generally very good

sorry, off topic...

Dr. Bonke, what PS adjustments did you make there? My aquarium pics come out with the same color cast as these originals did.

Indeed it is Dr Bonk. Nice work! I'm not a picture guy, just a guy with a camera.

I couldn't help myself but had to adjust your photo a little bit, I think this is probably a bit closer to the way it really looks in your tank, am I right?

Booger

That is a great improvement. I still think it requires a little more height in the back RH corner. With the camera can you adjust the settings so that you are taking at the highest resolution? Also try bring the light to the front of the tank for the photos it might help just enough to get that better photo.

Before the light/plant upgrade. In the front left corner you will see the plant with the shuts going up. That is the aponogeton bulbs I planted. Other than all plants are fake sept the crypts and the java.

BTW sorry bout the tank needing some cleaning, I had been on travel for my company before that pic and didn't have time to clean it.

Nice tank!!!
One suggestion. Get a large Amazon Sword Plant and plant it
at the back to hide your heater. Your fish will appreciate
it too. And your layout needs a centre piece too.

Booger this is the best I can do next step and it would be too much over exposed.

Nice looking tank, yet I would like to some height in the back corners/end to give it more flow rather than an all low level.
