Here is the link to pictures of my new Texas Cichlid, I am still to identify him, if he is the bigger species, or the slightly smaller one. He is quite a Dude tho, and very camera friendly.

Linky to my favourite pic of him

Linky to album

It is likely : Cichlasoma cyanoguttatum

We've got an old one here... she's about 7 years old thereabouts.

Although at the juvenile stage, it can be hard to tell.

The other is : Herichthys carpintis

Thank you for all of the compliments. I am only a few pages into the manual and still trying out new things with my camera. I do feel the need for a Tripod though, the camera is heavy, and after a while, my wrists seem to hurt :%)

Dallas, does this mean, that I have the Texas that gets bigger than the "Other one"?

clowny - it depends.. ours is around 7" there abouts. considering your location, the cyanoguttatum is probably the one you have. even aroudn here the carpintis is hard to come by.

Now I am truly afraid, but he is a darling. My husband simply can't stop doting on him, and for his sake, very soon we will need a 5th tank.

Very nice Cichlid Clownygirl!

Oh, and I can tell you know, that is in all probability Herichthys cyanoguttatus (you'd know if you had the much rarer carpintis because that's a shimmering pearlescent blue fish!) and that when that baby is grown up, he'll be around 11 inches in length. Going to be quite some bruiser when he's put on some body mass, that one!

I told my husband he is going to be too big for our 56 gallon, but I get the feeling that boy is just the excuse he needs to buy a bigger tank.

At 11 inches he'll need a 125 ... and probably claim the entire tank as his territory
