I like the black Angel, looks just like mine. You should really consider entering a picture into the next aquascaping contest. You will most likely win. -- Gomer Last edited by Gomer at 28-Oct-2004 05:15 |

I lost fair and square to the other great tanks by Bensaf, little mousling and Piscesgirl and littlepebble. Last edited by Bonke at 03-Nov-2004 04:20 |

Dr. Bonke Moderator Posts: 367 Kudos: 215 Votes: 36 Registered: 15-Apr-2004 | Thanks for all the nice comments people, I'm quite pleased with the tank. Oh and Whetu, I had to bribe those cories with some shrimp pellets an hour before in order to have them line up so nicely For the people who aren't that familiar with how fast plants can grow, below is a photo of the tank that I took just now, one week after the photos you see above. As you can see the tank is already in a "wild" state, some of the plants are in desperate need of cutting. If I have the time I will do that tomorrow or on thursday. How big are those Corys and what species are they? Gomer, those cories are about 5 cm (2" long or thereabouts. What species it is has been a bit of a discussion point as they came in at the LFS under the wrong name, but they look the most like Corydoras gomezi as far as I can tell, thought they're much darker in color than any photos I've seen on the web so far. You should really consider entering a picture into the next aquascaping contest. You will most likely win Heh, no I won't, My tank was in the previous competition but didn't win any prize, there's much prettier tanks out there. |

Dr. Bonke Moderator Posts: 367 Kudos: 215 Votes: 36 Registered: 15-Apr-2004 | Hello, It's been a while since I put some photos of my tank, I've been too busy writing my thesis to be around these forums much. Anyway, I've just shot a few new photos of my tank, you can pick the one you like best yourself, all photos were taken without flash at ISO 100, shutter time varying between 1/13 to 1/5 of a sec: photo 1 (1/5 s): shot from slighly off the right side below, maybe slightly too much light, the colors of the sunset hygro in the photo are not quite as good as they actually are. Photo 2 (1/13 s): Shot from the front, now a little bit higher. I took a slightly shorter shutter speed to get better color on the plants, however it makes the tank look darker then it is. Photo 3 (1/5 s): the same as photo 2, only with longer shutter time. here is a closeup of the sunset hygro, the way they actually look, these colors I can only get with close up photos. edit: wrong link edit2: resized photos a little Last edited by Bonke at 25-Oct-2004 10:46 Last edited by Bonke at 25-Oct-2004 10:52 |

Dr. Bonke Moderator Posts: 367 Kudos: 215 Votes: 36 Registered: 15-Apr-2004 | to LittleMousling: yes, I agree on a the more unified foreground, I'd love a nice carpeting plant, but so far I have not encountered any really good ones here in the different LFS's. It almost seems that I am the only one keeping a "proper" planted tank here in Finland. Most fishstores here don't go beyond the boring Javafern, one or two cryptos andd maybe some cabomba. I'm glad to say that I've never had BGA in my tank, though have had my share of trouble with other algae. The plant on the left-front is Lilaeopsis brasiliensis, it suffered very bad when I had a problem with staghorn algae a couple of months back. It seems to be recovering now, but it doesn't grow particularly fast and the older leaves tend to get overgrown with hair algae, which doesn't make them look particularly attractive... that algae is still one of my main headaches, I can't seem to get completely rid of it and it grows on all older leaves. It also has pretty much wiped out the patch of Hydrocotyle verticillata that I was hoping to use as a carpet, starting from the right, there's still two or three seedlings left, but I don't expect those to grow out untill I've added more light, maybe next year. to 91Bird305: It isn't all that bad really, the plants take care of pretty much all the fishpoop so I just vacuum away the remaining bit in the weekly water change. The big work is to keep the plants trimmed, they grow so fast that often one week is almost too long a period to wait with trimming. to keithgh: Keith, the tank has been up and running since may this year, I kept a diary about the setting up process for quite some time in the DIY section: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Technical%20Tinkering/36299.html?200409280300 though the last update in that is some months ago. I currently am using DIY CO2 in this tank, two bottles, I hope to make the switch to pressurised CO2 next year when my financial woes should be behind me (I now have to save up for my dissertation party, can't spend money on anything else). |
