Re-scaped and new substrate | |
just beginning Moderator Literature Nerd Posts: 1879 Kudos: 1380 Votes: 198 Registered: 17-Dec-2000 | I spent a couple of hours this afternoon changing the substrate of my 80 gallon mbuna tank from sand to gravel. I ended up with a new aquascape as well since I couldn't remember how I had it before. I like it much better now, it's very unplanned and thrown together but somehow looks just right. just beginning attached this image: The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. - Oscar Wilde |

The sand looks much nicer in this picture than it did 90% of the time in real life, which is why I got sick of it - it was so hard to keep clean and nice. just beginning attached this image: The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. - Oscar Wilde |

I can get the same one for 400US$ with stand and everything. Is your tank with acrylic? Robby Last edited by Robby1619 at 10-Jan-2006 07:07 Last edited by Robby1619 at 10-Jan-2006 07:08 |

I love this tank, but really hate the stand - hopefully yours is nicer! The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. - Oscar Wilde |

I will do something like yours if i get the tank. Robby Last edited by Robby1619 at 10-Jan-2006 10:43 |

I think you'll enjoy having a tank like this, it's especially nice because in my small apartment, the kitchen just sits in the back of the living room and this tank helps to break it up into two rooms. Plus it's nice to watch the fish while cooking. It's pretty easy to aquascape with rocks, but I expect plants will be more of a challenge. I'm going to be giving it a go sometime in mid-year when I turn it into a discus tank. More pics, taken at night this time so it's easier to see. For planting, this is a great tank for certain aquascapes such as having tall plants at the back end and sloping down to short plants or a gravel plain at the curved end. Or you could do a mound planting with tall plants in the middle and short plants all around. I've also seen some lovely discus setups that are mostly scaped with bogwood, with a few anubias here and there. Very nice tank! Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

Anubias is my favourite plant, mostly because it's bulletproof . I'm thinking tons of anubias, tons of wood, java moss, maybe some tenellus covering the foreground on both sides. I can't wait! However, I will have to acquire a new tank for my beloved johannii and the rest of his cichlid tankmates, or else wait until he dies (but hopefully that won't happen anytime soon, he is my oldest fish at five years and definitely my favourite).
