I have had several attempts to get this right and I think I am getting closer to what I am looking for. It is not a major alteration all it involved was taking out the big rock and turning the DW over and around. then replace a few of the smaller stones at the front Lh side to give it a surface level change

I do not have many LFS where I can look at display tanks with Cardinal Tetras in, but what I have noticed is that they swim just above the plants weather they be low or mid level if there is mix of mid and high level plants they seem to be mainly at mid level.
Today for the first time my Cardinals are now moving around the tank more. The tops of the Crypt nevilli is about the same height of the DW.

I have managed to take a few small pieces of Anubias petite nana from the 5ft tank and tie it to the DW.

The small stones are already aged and no big stone which means less height.

Even that small change the Cardinals are now moving over to the left hand side. They are going between the Anubias clump and the Anubias on the DW also behind the Anubias on the DW there is a hollow lower than the height of the Crypts.
