Sneak peak, new fishies(more pics) | |
Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | I shopped till I dropped and my feet are so sore and my pockets are so now empty but I brought home new fishies. The first is I think definitely one of the 4 panda cories I bought but the the other one in the pic (I bought 3 of them) was supposed to be Corydora Melanistius. I don't even think now they are corys at all. Another panda cory and the elephant nose I bought. Love that cool nose. I also fell in love and brought home 2 balloon rams. My poor little school of 3 glass catfish got 3 new friends to make them a gang, and I also got 2 royal whiptails. I bought this as a gold pencil fish but when I got home I found it is a malayan halfbeak. And last but not least, my personal favourite, a spiney eel. |

I mean, one of my LFSes mislabels all the time, but thankfully I'm able to actually identify what most of the fish are. Hopefully you can bring that Halfbeak back to health. However, halfbeaks can be quite nippy and are not suited for a community aquarium. Like the Sturisoma, they're great fish! Looks like you've got a lot of bigger fish (well, they WILL be bigger). You're going to have to upgrade in the future! -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

I hold out hope it is S.aterrimus which only get to 3" but it doesn't really look like in this link. Schoutedeni is seems to be. http://www.scotcat.com/factsheets/synodontis_schoutedeni.htm |

The gold ones were also at my lfs but I liked the more traditional colored ones. Look in the photo section for lots of ram photos. |

Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | Had a casualty today. The male balloon ram died shortly after a frozen bloodworm feeding. I took a pic while he was ill but couldn't see any red gills or spots or injury. He did however look like his anus was pushed out somehow. I figure he absolutely gutzed himself and paid a very heavy price. Water peram's were perfect. RIP Mr Ram. On a brighter note, I managed to get a shot of my elephant nose "Peter" and I got his eye, without it reflecting back to the camera! It looks like a cat. I never grow tired of seeing my upsidedown catfish and their antics. They can't quite turn upsidedown yet by themselves and use the front glass to start them off. Rather like training wheels. |

That sucks. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | I think my female ram is grieving. She isn't out front displaying colors just moping around in the plants. I think she is looking for her mate. I went down the lfs and ordered 3 friends for her and they should be here by tomorrow. Yea I know, I am a softie. |

Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | Friday next week for the fish now as I missed this weeks order. On the bright side, the female balloon ram is eating and seems ok. I counted and counted the litte pandas and kept coming up with 3 instead of 4. They were only very little ones when I got them. I searched the tank and wedged way up under the DW was a dead panda. On the plus side, I also found a baby cory about a month old who must have hatched from the bronze cory eggs left in there. He had better keep close to that DW as the Eupterus cats might think he is edible. |
