Bernard

Fantastic as usual. The reason Bernard's tanks are like that he did a lot of research before and was prepared to experiment with different aquascape ideas.

The secret is no secret research and research more then put into practice what you have learnt.

I have spent well over 6 months researching the plants for my 11g Betta tank, and I can tell you I had many different plant and plans drawn up.

Noodles,

I believe they are endangered in the wild. I'm not sure if anybody is breeding them sucessfully. Even here where they are native they are hard to come by. They'll pop up once or twice a year for a week or so in a few of the markets then disappear.

"They are Hengali Rasbora. "

.... I have never even heard of the species before. Is availability limited because it's an uncommon species in the wilderness, or that most exporters just bypass the species, because I'm getting rasbora fever, if you know what I mean. .

Another shot. Mass of Anubias. There's another pile somewhere.

Bensaf,

Well thanks; I am flattered that you enjoy dealing with people like Tetra Fan and me, although it raises the pressure on us that our tanks will have to look just as pretty as yours

I once saw a tank with Hengali Rasboras (actually, I think it is Hengeli Rasbora, the Latin name seems to be Rasbora hengeli espei) at my LFS. I almost got into an argument with them because I was convinced that they are painted. They really display the brightest orange I have seen on any fish ever. Too bad I didn’t have any space back then; I for sure would have liked to purchase a nice school.

Well, maybe some day I will see them again

Warning! This tank was created and is maintained by a professional; do not attempt this at home.

Thanks Ingo, but false modesty aside I would have to disagree. I am by no means a professional. I never grew anything except facial hair until a couple of years ago
It's ridiculously easy.

I've gone through what's required many times. When the steps are followed it's simple and very little work. Unfortunately some people still think they can shortcut or cheat the system. Doesn't work. Also there's still a lot of "old school" nonsense out there regarding planted tanks which people follow (I used to). Even the wpg "rule" is dodgy. We have power compact lighting technology and good reflectors are easy to come by. 2-3 watts of PC lighting with reflectors is now high light. That's why it's nice to deal with somebody like yourself or tetratech who are willing to take the steps and time to do it right from the start.

2 watts of PC lighting, lots of plants good steady Co2 and plenty of all nutrients (including enough nitrate and phosphate, they don't cause algae honest !)and that's it. Low light or non co2 methods are even easier.

Noodles,
Xie Xie ! Well observed on the Rasboras. There's a reason for the more intense coloration. They are not Espei's !They are Hengali Rasbora. Very similar but the black wedge on the Hengali's is much narrower then the Espei's. The Espei has an light ornge coloring on the body whereas the Hengali just has the very bright irridescent stripe above the wedge. The overall body color is silver. And it is very bright, it's like they have a neon light inserted in their bodies.
It's a common mis identification, actually I noticed the profile here for Espei actually has a photo of a Hengali. They are quite a hard to find fish, even here in Indonesia where they are a native species. I don't see them very often which is a shame as I'd like to up the school a bit. Good schoolers, very tight and pretty hardy, I've had this crew for about a year and a half now.

I've also just got hold of some beautiful Microrasbora, forgotten the full name. Little beauts with a pink body and purple vertical stripes. They're great fun even though they are tiny, they buzz around in and out of the plants like wasps. They max out at about half an inch. This unfortunately makles them a bugger to photo, I'll keep trying though.

Hen hao, as usual, ben .

What's most impressive, IMO, is the color on those epseis. I've never seen them that vibrant.

Well Bensaf,

These are some very nice shots that you took there of your tank. I only can hope that your TV program sucks all the time, so we can get many more like these

My Xmas Moss doesn’t look like yours yet, I hope it will some day (only 1 week in tank yet).

Your Ram is beautiful, nothing else to say about it.

In addition, I want you to add a disclaimer to every photo that you post. It should read something like this:

Warning! This tank was created and is maintained by a professional; do not attempt this at home.

Great shots,

Ingo

New fish Bolivian Ram. Never seen them on sale here in 2 years. Grabbed a pair. At 20 cents each how can you go wrong Very happy with them, settled right in very lively and active, seem to have a bit more personality then the Blues.
