and this time they're more succesful then previous times.
this photo was taken about a week ago, on the 17th, The angels had laid several hundred eggs on the newest leaf of the Rose Sword. As usual when there are eggs, most of the fish have disappeared into the greenery. Today is the first day the fry is actually swimming freely, it was such an impressive sight when I came home 15 minutes ago, that I had to take a photo and post it here

That's really cool! The parents are really pretty. I wonder how all the fry will turn out.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I'm absolutely AMAZED that your yo-yo loaches didn't eat those eggs. if it's edible and it's resting on a leaf, mine wil devour it within minutes...

Congrats on the successful spawn though!

That is fantastic are they keeping a good guard on them or are the fry fending for themselves.

PS excellent tank.

Well the day after I took the second photo all the fry had been eaten, whether part by the parents and part by the other fish I don't know as I was at work, but they're all gone. The pair reeds about every three weeks or so, and generally they manage to keep the eggs safe until the fry starts swimming freely. Even then they are very protective and the record has been that they've kept some safe for up to 5 days after they started swimming. That was when the tank was heavily overgrown. So far I have only once really tried to keep some fry safe, and from that brood I have about 8 or 9 small angels left, which are now about 1½-2 inches big.

The coloring is generally like the parents, about 45% looks like daddy (striped) and 45% looks like mommy (chocolate), then there is some in between, and one which is totally white-yellow. I think that there is some inbreeding in the Finnish Angel population as quite a few of the angel fry, about 25% or so, has a problem with the ventral fins (the long thin ones), which are either somewhat twisted, shorter, or even completely missing. My guess is that it is a recessive mutation, as neither of the parents has any problem with it, alternatively it could be related to the growth conditions that they had in the first three weeks after hatching, when they were in a terribly small tank in which the water condition was dreadful, even with 50% changes every day.

Once I get rid of that batch of fry I will probably move the parents to the fry tank and let them do an attempt at completely raising their young, I'm sure it will be a lovely sight. Once that happens I'll keep a report here.

Very nice indeed. Try to move them to another tank, all by themselves & they will raise the fry with little problems.

Congrats on the breeding pair !

You could give the fry a species name after yourself.
"Bonkefish"
