FishBone Fingerling Posts: 16 Kudos: 16 Votes: 2 Registered: 21-Oct-2004 | Checkout this link: www.characin.com/photography Randy's an exter and this is what he has to say: I have found two features to be essential for taking aquarium photos: 1. Use of an external flash 2. The ability to set the aperture to at least 8.0f (and preferably to 11 or a higher number) The following features, though not essential, are very desirable: 1. At least 2 megapixels (such as a resolution of 1600 x 1200 or larger) 2. Auto focus 3. Spot focus 4. TTL ("Through The Lens" light metering) 5. Zoom of at least 2x, preferably more 6. Ability to add on an auxiliary lens http://undefined]http://undefined[/link][link=http://www.characin.com/photography |

I got my Nikon coolpix 2700 for under 150 USDollars somewhere on the internet(it was a present so I don't know for sure the exact price or website - sorry:%)). Since I'm not on my own computer you can check out all the pics I've taken if you want right [link=here]http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/matty_boom_batty/my_photos [/link]. So_Very_Sneaky Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004 | I would recommend my camera highly, Fujifilm A3000SE. It has manual and auto modes, video recording, and a good macro focus. It has 10X Zoom total, 6x optical and 4 x digital It comes with a lens cover, cap, and 16mb card, and neck strap. It takes great great pictures. I really did my research before I purchased this cam, and it was really worth it. I got the Camera, 256mb XD Card (I can take 360 pics on highest quality, or 2500 on lowest), charger and 2 sets of batteries, case, extended warranty, and it came to $479 Canadian, or around 450USD. Of course you dont have to get all the goodies, I did cuz I combined the money my parents gave me for xmas with the money my boyfriends mom gave me for xmas and bought all that. I love the cam so much I have taken 6872 pictures since boxing day Takes great pics of small stuff: great pics of landscapes: Full Zoom (10x) on Trees And check out the perfect color depth of my little white dog on white snow: Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

ClownyGirl Fish Addict Posts: 508 Kudos: 311 Votes: 5 Registered: 07-Oct-2004 | Pete, Those are very nice pictures and the camera seems affordable. The thing is, I went to the Fujifilm website and could not find the S3000, I did however find the S3100. Is this as good as the S3000? Clowny |

So_Very_Sneaky Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004 | Hi Clowny, I checked it out, and the only difference I could see is that it is 4.0 MP instead of 3.2. I checked at www.bestbuy.ca, which is where I did my searching and some of my research on digi cams, and it states the price of the Finepix S3100SE as $349.99 Canadian, or around $325 USD. The local stores around here are still stocking the S3000SE that I have at 249.99, or around 225 USD. So it really depends on how much you want to spend. Best bet would be to check local stores around you via telephone to see the prices. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | Clownygirl The Camera I use Nikon Coolpix 4500 is no longer on the market the new models change very fast these days. There many models and types on the market today ranging from under $100 to $1000s First think about what you want to do? happy snaps or some thing that you can reproduce on quality prints at a good large size. An excellent macro setting mimuim one ins. Additional lenses (screw on) The amount you are prepared to spend? Also allow for the so called extras, these can cost many $100s. Depending on the type/model many lenses cost far more that the ba All the extras (that are the basics anyway) spare cards, rechargable batteries, carry bag, and possibly many more extras. No matter what brand you choose check to see that you can get a full back up customer service, some camera shops could give free camera courses. Finally only buy a good quality name brand that give you a full written guranteed service. I personally dont think it is a short term decision to make. ClownyGirl Fish Addict Posts: 508 Kudos: 311 Votes: 5 Registered: 07-Oct-2004 | Okay, I know this forum is meant for posting pics, but I wanted to ask all those wonderful fishy photographers out there... What camera do you use? I am planning to buy hubby a digicam for our 1st wedding anniversary and I dont know what to buy. I dont want to buy something very expensive, but I do want to be able to take nice fishy pics, and pics of us too. I am short on time, I fly out of my city to see him on the 14th of May, so I have just about 2 weeks to go. Oh, and forgot to mention, please attach or link me to a sample picture (preferably your best) from the camera to help me decide. Thankees :%) Last edited by Clownygirl at 02-May-2005 12:31 Last edited by ClownyGirl at 22-May-2005 07:49 |

I once thought the 5.0 mp of the aforementioned camera was excessive, but now I'm seeing cybershots, which are like, half the size of mine, rated at 5.1+. bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | I use a plain 'ol cheapo Casio something or other, sorry can't even remember what model it is. An expensive fancy camera will give you additional options and better quality on colors etc. But no camera no matter how is a guarantee of good photos. That comes from knowing how to use the camera and how to compose a photo ! The fact that Keiths pics look great aren't much to do with the camera and more to do how the photos were composed and how the light was used. bensaf attached this image: Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

Sharpix Enthusiast Posts: 241 Kudos: 123 Votes: 0 Registered: 01-Mar-2003 | I'd say GET THE BEST CAMERA YOU CAN AFFORD. Period. My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 5700 5 Megapixels, 10x optical zoom, and an array of modes, presets and THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, its completly MANUAL, so you can take photos with low lighting, shots of 8 seconds long, or 1 minute... For example, you want to take a poorly lit building... You set the camera for a 8-second shot and the photo comes very well lit. For fishes, i can take good photos without flash even though my 55g only has a 30w 4' tube with reflecting canopy... (not much light). ********* Look for cameras with manual modes. You can take amazing photos when the thing can be tweaked, and the good thing about digicams is every shot doesn't cost you a thing, so you can experiment a lot. ********************* ---> www.pelican.com <--- for the camera case (if the camera is not small as a computer mouse, you should buy one of those... sold in good photos shops). GREAT i mean GREAT cases... look and function as professional cases without being too costly. The interior foam is 'almost chopped' so you can remove foam parts to fit whatever you want... sooo easy! |
