Yesterday, after I did some serious weeding in my tank (see my other topic: [href: two weeks growth]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Photo%20Booth/52324.html?200501010758[/href]) My angels suddenly got the hots for eachother again. It had been about 4 weeks since their last spawn, and this time I was actually able to record it by taking some quick photos, here are some of them, the first one is mommy angle, laying the eggs

Thye couple is extremely territorial now that the eggs are there, the other three angels are conitnuously harassed and have moved to the complete right of the tank. even there they are not safe from mommy and daddy angel. This morning already some 15 - 20 % of the eggs was gone, tomorrow that will likely be about half. As I have no extra space for them at the moment I'll just let nature run its course and let the other fish have some caviar

Looks like cleaning the tank gave them more space to move or find each other in the jungle you had there.

As always it pays to have the camera ready you never know what is going to happen.

We're one week later now from when the angels laid their eggs and they have been very protective parents. They have terrorized all the other fish, which are pretty much continuously in hiding in the vegetation, and above my expectations, up until today they have managed to keep their offspring safe. Whether they will manage over the next few days will be something else, as the little ones have now started to swim freely. Although they stick together quite nicely in a large "ball" of fry, some of them tend to scoot off and need to be fetched by the parents. I dread feeding time, as at those times the parents seem to forget they have kids for a little while and the tank goes into feeding frenzy. So there isn't much of a chance for these babies. However, during this weekend I will start setting up a second tank specifically for fry... maybe in the future (when the fry which I've kept in two small plastic containers for the past months has grown) I will separate the couple in there and let them run their family in there, safe from predators. Here are some photos that I took during this day while the fry started to really get their fins active:

Fantastic photos I hope you have no problems in raising that large family. Well done.

How is the little family doing? You have some gorgeous angels! I would be proud to own such a nice looking pair.

ah... well, the little family was doomed from the beginning as it was hatched in the community tank, besides the couple there are also 3 other angels a school of 9 rummy nose tetras, 6 rosy tetras, a betta female, 6 cories and 4 black mollies. The first morning after they started swimming, as the light turned on, daddy angel became confused and started eating the fry. Mommy angel didn't like that at all and pecked at his gills furiously and eventually he realized his mistake. Meanwhile the other three angels had homed in and also caught quite a few. I think that day only 50 of the ~250 fry remained, they were guarded well during that day, and it was a great sight, but the next morning when I checked the tank (a couple of hours after the light switched on) they were all gone.

I'm currently setting up a new tank, which I bought during the weekend and that will make a great breading tank for the angels. There I will also be able to properly feed the fry without having all the other fish present to go into a feeding frenzy.
