You are new to FP and I don't know how long you have been keeping fish. Right now, your tank seems to reflect your "perky self." It is bright and colorful. If you are going to switch to a more "natural theme" and, if you are going to have live plants, I'd go with Laterite for the substrate. It comes in browns, a redish brown, and a black color. It is rich in iron and, over time it will release the iron into the plants roots. If you are going to have live plants you will want to be sure that your lights are around 6700K for best plant growth. I dont think that a 55G tank, as big as it is, should have that brightly colored gravel. It GRABS your eyes and detracts attention from everything else in the tank. In a smaller tank, like the one you have pictured, it blends in with the other colors. You may want to have a piece of tempered glass cut so that it fits inside your tank on the lip of the plastic trim and then place your reflector on top of that. That way you can fill the tank to the bottom edge of the trim and not have that large gap between the trim and water. The piece of glass will keep the water from splashing out of the tank onto the stand, and into the electronics of the reflector. Just a couple of thoughts...
