Yes, my Amazon sword is flowering and growing baby plants like crazy. So far it has 2 plant stalks with lots of flower and lots of baby plants. Im quite happy, but it is blocking the swimming space of the fish in the tank. Why do these plants flower so much?

Regards
Mango

Hi,
Obviously, you have provided the just what the plant needs
and it is responding. Amazon Sword plants can take over
even tanks over 100 gallons, as they send out runners,
grow babys that turn into more adults, and the process
continues. Many on this site would die for your problem.
Press the runner(s) to the gravel where ever a new plantlet
starts to form. The plantlet will root and begin to grow.
Once the babies have reached 3-4 inches, then you can
snip the runner off on either side. Leave about a quarter
to half inch of runner attached to both sides of the
baby plant.

Youthful swords are good trading material at your local
fish club, swapping with others in town that would like
a sword, or with your LFS for other goods.

You should be able to trim the outer leaves from the
mother to cut it back. Snip off the leaf leaving about
a half inch of it at its base. That should allow you
to recover some of the lost swimming room.

What ever you are doing the plant must like it. I have never had any success with them at all.

Well done what ever you are doing.
