Anubias In a Cichlid Tank. | |
Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | Can it be done? I recently adopted a number of anubias from JB before she headed to greener pastures...... currently they're all in one tank, and that's about all that's in the tank. I wanted to try putting some in a few of the other tanks we have running. The largest tank has clownloaches and silver dollars that like a nice green lunch so I'm left with the two tanks that have cichlid salts in them. Anyone have experience with this? ^_^ |

I have a friend who keeps anubias with some of the larger cichlids commonly encountered in the hobby (Jack Dempsey, Firemouth and even Jaguars, if memory serves me right) and the plants do very well. No salt, though. They do very well with his Africans as well. |

There's a small perspicax that doesnt get along too well with the other fish. The tank is treated with cichlid salts. It's lived its' life without plants so I'm not sure if it'd be a nibbler. Also not sure if the anubias will handle the salts. ^_^ |

They may give the leaves an occassional chomp but most find the leaves too hard and not flavorable. Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

Now i have Anubias without any problems with N.brichardi & N.leleupi. I add some salt in the tank, but not much & they still do fine. http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

TW that's a great looking tank Clean and simple, I really like it. The rocks in the hardscape contrast nicely with the substrate, and the few shades of green compliment each other nicely without looking too busy. Update on my plants, well, they've done ok, but they've been torn up quite a bit by the tankmate. The third piece of driftwood and plant that remains with the firemouth seems to be doing ok, even in the dark. I may end up moving them back. ^_^ |
