Anubias: long term care | |
illustrae Fish Addict Posts: 820 Kudos: 876 Registered: 04-May-2005 | I have a tank full of anubias (coffeefolia, nana, and congensis) tied onto bogwood that has been set up for about two years now, and I'd love to leave it as-is for several years to come. The anubias has flourished, flowered, and looks fantastic. However, recently I've been noticing that some of the rhizomes have started rotting at one end, and the leaves fall off one by one. Is this bad for the plant? Will it rot all the way? Should I cut off the rotting part, and will that stop it? What should I do? Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

I believe the cause was that the rubber band was too tight. If you still have whatever you tied yours on with in place, perhaps the plants' growth has tightened it and that's what's causing this? ><> |

They grow like weeds once they get established. What I have found out they like plenty of water movement. As far as fixing to DW I have always used 15lb nylon fishing line and this has never caused a rotting problem. But what will happen over the years as the plant gets bigger/longer the end of the plant not the growing tip does break down. Naturally the leaves will not last for ever and they just break down as possibly nature attended. For some reason mine do not flower that often. Mine also get a regular trimming from the CLs. I also have several Anubias Nanna in the Betta tank and they are tied with fishing line and are showing no signs of breaking down. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.
