Brackish + Plants ?? | |
Gone_Troppo Enthusiast Posts: 285 Kudos: 196 Registered: 13-Mar-2007 | Hey all, Since seeing a tank of bumblebee gobies at the LFS a couple of weeks ago I can't seem to get the thought of a smallish species tank out of my head (I know, I know, yet another tank! ). Anyway... I've been doing some reading and from what I can work out the bumblebees prefer fairly low end brackish conditions (SG 1.005 - SG 1.008) which just might allow me to combine the fish with some greenery as well. So.. my question... Other than java fern, mangroves and some varieties of val what else can I plant the tank with that won't turn into a brown mushy mess? and I guess following on from that, if I were to find suitable plants in FW environs should I slowly transition them to the appropriate salinity over a few weeks or would they be OK if I just plonk them straight into a brackish tank? Thanks for your help G_T Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic. |

Here are a couple of sites: http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/management/Pearce_Brackish.2.html http://www.azgardens.com/c-63-brackish-plant-habitat-packages.aspx This second link is from AZ Gardens and lists (shows) the plants that will adapt best to a brackish water tank. Read the information, write down the plant names, and look for them in your local area. Have fun! Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

Another place to look would be the Darwin UNI reason I am saying that I know many years ago Melb Uni had a huge glass house for salinity plants only. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.
