Plants grow like mad and get great colors. 4. It can effect pH. 5. It's another piece of equipment in and out of the tank 6. It'll empty a wallet or twelve All the important technical stuff can be googled ![]() |

First being lighting of course. You have a few options on what you need depending on the size of your tank amount your looking to spend type of plants. If your looking for a large heavy planted tank your lighting is going to very expensive, and your going to probably want an actual Co2 Injection system which are also pricy but according to my brother and his 90gal heavy planted tank well worth the investment. The Injection thing is neat because it monitors the PH and shuts it self off when the water gets to acidic to make sure your fish live. If you have a smaller Tank I would go DIY with a 2-litter bottle setup which is very inexpensive. I wouldn't go with the reactors from a LFS just because they do the same thing as a DIY and are more expensive. But Again I am also new to plants and am just passing on what my brother and others have told me, not speaking from expercience as i am just now seting up my own DIY in my first planted tank. |

It will take your plants to a new level. They will grow faster, be more lush, colorful and bigger in size and foliage. Not really of much benefit if you have less then 2 wpg. Co2 drives photosynthesis, which of course requires light, without the right amount of light the co2 is basically wasted. DIY is fine for a tank of 30gals or less , more then that you really need a pressurized system to get a decent level of c02. The use of Co2 in conjuction with bright light will almost certainly mean you will need a solid ferilization regime. The plants will be growing so well they will quickly use up the nutrients provided by the tank livestock. All of this means that a planted tank with good levels of Co2 will require significantly more maintenance, you have to be prepared to do this. The equipment required will be another days post ![]() Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |
