![]() | Crypt? plantlets |
Caviar![]() ![]() Hobbyist Posts: 134 Kudos: 187 Votes: 73 Registered: 09-Jan-2004 ![]() ![]() | I purchased this plant and a Cryptocoryne Ciliata at Walmart today. My question is what do I do with the plantlets that are growing from it? Do I snip them off and plant them, or leave them alone? and do I snip off the long bare stem that they sprouted from? This plant is at the waterline. How do you prune them? Both plants are beautiful, healthy green. The photo doesn't do it justice. http://photos.yahoo.com/countrybump1 If the link doesn't work, could someone tell me how to correct it? Thank you. Last edited by bensaf at 20-May-2005 22:27 |

If the "babies" have roots, then plant them to the crown of the plant and weigh down the runner so the babies stay rooted. Once the babies reach 3-4 inches in size, then you can snip the runner on both sides of the new plant. Leave about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the runner attached to the new plant, and remove the weights. As with all Crypts, be prepared for them to "melt" on planting in the new tank. Remove any dead or dying leaves and leave the center of the plant alone. If the center becomes affected remove only the soft mushy parts and leave the remainder alone. They will come back as long as the stalk is firm. When you need to trim it, trim off the out side leaves (grows from the center out) by snipping them off about a 1/2 inch to an inch from the crown. Either Wendtii or Nevilli I am looking for the darker fine leaf of the two and has a bushy growth, and does not require any special conditions.
