Probably just grown under different light conditions/for longer than yours.

It could be a different variety but more likely to be the conditions it was grown in.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Wide leaf is mostly just a term they are using to distinguish it from the narrow leaf type.

I have both the big Java fern and the small one, growing in the same tank so they are different, I don't know the names neither.I suppose it is the same species, with this variation.

I have java fern with leaves in excess of a foot. It is probably just the conditions in which it was grown.

There is supposedly a phillipene type that is different from the regular, you could have this type.

Its spelled Phillipines CLF Im fillipino, so i should know....

THe Phillipines variety has hammered-looking leaves, and i think it is also narrower. I personally like this variety better than others, and i have yet to see it in stores.

I saw on a website selling plants once that the Java Fern's leaves can reach a foot long, and they called it a monster mother plant.

Well pardon me goby, sorry my spelling isnt perfect I know what you are talking about when you are refering to the giant kind. They call it Ahnuld Fern or something like that, refering to Shwarzenager, you can correct me on the spelling of that. I still say its just how they were grown. They will get smaller in the aquariums. In my experience, java ferns put out short leaves in low light. Under high light, they produce large leaves that may be trilobed.

Ha-ha! I bet i cant even spell that....On my own!

I am sure that experience beats theory, but i always thought that plants will grow larger leaves in low light to catch as much sun as possible. Smaller leaves, i thought, were almost always accompanied my multiple small leaves. Wow, i guess there are things in life that common sense wouldnt solve (Shouldve realized that by now! )
