Hello. A few weeks ago, i was asking of about which light bulbs to buy for LIVE AQUATIC PLANTS between Zoomeds Flora sun max plant growth(8500k with peak emmisions in the red and blue spectrum) or the the Tropic sun daylight bulbs(5500k). The answer came back as Zoomeds Flora sun max plant growth(8500k with peak emmisions in the red and blue spectrum). I am just double checking to make shure that this would be the best choice.
Does Rotala indica/rotundifolia grow in low light? I have seen a rotala potted planted at fish store doing this. If this is the case, i would like to get some.

Rotala is capable of surviving in relatively low light. But that's all it will do - survive.

It will quickly lose it's bottom leaves, growth will slow with long gaps between leaves, small leaves, very thin weak stems and will grow green not red. As it's a thin plant to start with and needs to be kept dense and bushy to look attractive.

So in summary it may survive but will look pretty ugly. You may be better spending your money on a plant that's more appropriate for your lighting set up.

Bernard is correct there is a big difference between a plant surviving and a very healthy plant growing at its best.

I would be looking for something else that will grow well in your tank.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

Rotala rotundifolia is the only plant of the rotala group that will tolerate medium light. It may be the plant that you saw at the LFS. For additional information and pictures of the various rotala go to: http://www.tropica.com/default.asp
