Long runer from Crypt | |
keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | My only tall Crypt in the Betta Tank is shooting healthy new plantlets. The latest of the three came from a very long runner 8ins I think the only reason it stopped it came to the front glass of the tank. I puled it out gently & left about a 2ins runner on and it took of immediately in 10 days from first shooting it is now 2ins tall. The substrate is 3ins deep and I feed using Seachem liquid ferts. The lighting is a twin 18ins Aqu one unit a very efficient lighting unit. Generally, one would guide the runner so that it bends and turns as it grows away from the mother plant to where you want the baby plant to grow. When the runner buds into a baby plant, hold the runner bud down to the substrate with a small pebble or a lead weight bent into a U shape and "Staple" the bud lightly to the surface of the substrate. You should allow the baby to grow to about a 3-4 inch plant before severing it from the runner. Leave about a half inch of runner on either side of the baby and at that point (3-4 inches in size) you can either uproot it and move it to where you want it to mature, or you can just leave it grow where it started. I was just making a comment on the length of the runner as all the other runners I have seen are usually close to the mother plant ( I am not referring to Chain type plantlets) The other runners were all under 30mm that is what is so surprising about that particular runner. I had to remove it before it got to big as it was too close to the C nevilii. As soon as I moved it closer to the mother plant it just took off like it had never been moved.
