New Lighting Benefits | |
aquapickle27 Enthusiast Posts: 182 Kudos: 98 Votes: 55 Registered: 28-Jan-2006 | As of right now i am running a 96 watt 10,000k/Actinic 50/50. I know it is not the right light and i am planning to order a 96 watt 6,700k daylight bulb. I have some wisteria in my tank and it has new growth but it is not looking very good. The plants dont grow any taller really (at least from what i can see). Will the new light help at all? Are there any other things i should be doing? I have been supplementing 3 ml of flourish excel every other day(it is a 38 gal). And i have from 2-2.5 in of gravel throughout the tank. i would like to maybe add some other plant species _ Any suggestions? †Aquapickle† |

But I will ask how long are they on for each day and do you have a timer as they should be on for about 12 hours a day With the substrate it should be at least 3ins deep and 1-3mm good clean substrate. What have you got and how often do you do the gravel vacs. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. If you have a normal or higher bio-load then the poor growth of that plant could, indeed, be because of the type of light you are currently using. With some plants, a light like that can cause the plant to grow along the gravel and not climb toward the surface and an already too bright light. Since you already say that you are going to shift down in "K" rating you will probably find that plant will react to the shift favorably. If you are using compact fluorescent bulbs, you should be able to find the 96 watt size in K ratings that range from 6700 through 8800k. I'd go no higher than the 8800K bulb. aquapickle27 Enthusiast Posts: 182 Kudos: 98 Votes: 55 Registered: 28-Jan-2006 | It is a 38 gal and the light is a compact florescent 50/50 actinic (other half 10,000k daylight). 2.5 watts/gal I had about 1-2 in of gravel and i just added some more so its now 3 inches. Plants: Wisteria and an anubius (not much) I also have some other wierd plant that sends out runners along the gravel.(small leaves and really skinny stem) Fish: Two Rams 8 Cardinals 6 Cories The light is on for 10-11 hrs a day. The wisteria has new branches coming off but nothing really grows vertical. †Aquapickle† |
