![]() | Packaged plants? |
Satinandtat![]() Hobbyist Posts: 54 Votes: 0 Registered: 11-Aug-2005 | One pet store around here carries "Aqua Plants" that come in plastic tubes with the roots packed in some sort of gel. Since I'm lazy and willing to pay far too much for something that's guaranteed snail-free, I bought some. I had no clue what most of them were, so I ended up with more Amazon swords and wisteria....but there were others like "Silver Ribbon" and "Gold Ribbon" that I'd never heard of. Are they land plants being sold as aquatic plants? Some of them looked nice, but I don't want to buy anything that'll definitely die. |

I read recently about plants that are grown out of water need to get used to being submerged. I think that's what happened with me...they aren't fully submerged in those little tubes. |

I know orchids are sold in their millions this way. But from that point onwards it requires special skill and sometimes special growing conditions before you can even think of planting them. Also it could take many years before the plants are fully established. I've seen about five different species, and none of them are true aquatic plants. Do not buy them; they cannot live underwater and will die in a few months if kept submerged. If you already have them, you should plant them in a normal pot and always keep the soil moist. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |
