mews Hobbyist Posts: 75 Kudos: 33 Votes: 1 Registered: 25-Apr-2007 | HI all I purchased a bunch of pink baby tears from an LFS but Im not so sure they are the http://www.tropica.com/productcard_1.asp?id=033 Rotala rotundifolia I expected. they look more like a classic http://www.tropica.com/productcard_1.asp?id=048 Micranthemum but the leaves are indeed pinkish. ie there are no signs of the longish leaves I expected. More the rounded or oval spade like shape.. Ill try and get a photo for you of mine. I was going to ask about making some cuttings. I have taken a few (never done cuttings b4 this rooted stuff is all new to me) and they dont look too good ;( My 5footer http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2379/2242540621_1a81dcb3c8.jpg |

With the cuttings make sure there are no side leaves under the water if so they can and will rot causing the cutting to die. When doing any gardening cuttings you make a small hole first so that the cut edge does not get damaged, this is practically impossible in an aquarium. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Leave them alone for about a month to give them time to acclimate and begin to grow. When they reach about half way to the surface, then snip the stalks midway and plant the tops in groups of three elsewhere in the tank. The plant will grow new tops at the snipped stalk and the "old tops" will root and begin to grow to the surface. Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

I had to use a quick cam. a zoom up on one of the cuttings http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2219/2200727234_e87e3b6020_m.jpg this actually does make it look like the slender leaves of a Rotala. I think my feeder/cycle fish are eating/striping the plant. No big deal as they will be deported from the tank soon The leaves are looking brownish tho as if its taken a little shock to adjust. However some of the cuttings arnt looking too bad. So I guess we wait My 5footer http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2379/2242540621_1a81dcb3c8.jpg |
