If you have only a few plants in a tank and lots of fish, chances are you don't need to add anything to the tank in the way of "plant food" as the fish will take care of it for you. If you want a lush green jungle, then you have several options and which one or combination of choices will depend upon how much money you can spend, regularly, on that tank. You can change substrates to one of the "plant friendly" substrates such as SeaChem's Fluorite, or Eco Complete or several other choices.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/plant_substrates.php Depending upon what kind of plants you want, you could limit yourself to "low light" plants and stick with plants that will thrive with less than 2 watts per gallon. Or, you could increase the intensity of your lights and then very nearly take you pick of any plant. If you increase your lights, or increase the density of your plants, then you will need to add fertilizers to the water for the plants. Things such as SeaChem's Flourish products and others. If you really want your plants to "grow like the dickens" then you could inject CO2 into the tank providing them with the element, Carbon for superior growth. Most of us use injected CO2, a plant friendly substrate, and some also use additional fertilizers. Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |
