I've been told that a combination of phosphate removal and dosing with Flourish Excel with kill the black/red algae. Have you checked your phosphate level? If it's high, this is likely part of the problem.

I vote! Do you?

Hi Papasan,
I think that at this point, a picture would be best
for folks to look at and help determine what you are
seeing so that they might offer more specific advice.

sorry folks the photos are still on there way due to my server playing up, as an update my Lfs advised me to remove my internal filter basket and clean out the mulme uderneath, which i did as my phosphate level is 10+ then i removed my planted bogwood with jarva fern/moss and it seems when cleaned the moss is growing up the fern leaves hence the spikes/needles, so will more regular water changes bring this level down? or do i need some chems

thanks for any info

papasan
