My boss has been about the tank here at work. Not enough fish, no plants, blah blah blah. I told him to get out the checkbook and I would make him happy.
This is before. Current stock 1 gold gourami, 7 cories and 2 angels.

2 hours later, planted with crypts, anubais, java fern, banana plants (where I got the plants from threw them in), hornwort and pennywort. Fish stocking still the same.
The wood in the tank is all fake. I really wanted a piece of cedar that I found but I didnt want to risk it. I was going to go with a store bought piece yet to be purchased, but my boss wants CLEAR water and would go nuts if there was a speck of tannins. Personally I love the tint that it gives, but its not my tank.

I love the coffeefolia doedogg, good choice. It still needs more plants, but it's a good start, looks tons better already.

More plants!

And yes it does look better already. I might suggest taking the coffeefolia off of the tip of the DW and tying it to the base of that branch instead. It looks a bit unnatural so high up there.

Good job

Sooooooo much better!

That's really going to be something to look at by the time you get done!

Personally, I like to put things in front of my intake tube & heater, to try & hide them. On this site they say it is better to put your heater horizontally or at an angle & more toward the bottom.

Please keep us caught up with pics, as I love to see beautiful tank shots, especially before & after. Thanks for sharing this with us! Good work so far!

I wanna work there!
..........................................

Out of curiosity......what does the note on the tank say? Please don't feed the fish?
........................................

Opps! Just noticed in the third pic it says, "Do not feed the fish."

its loking HEAPS better already. i would like to see that tank over grown with plants.

i would also like to see some colour, such as some red, pink and orange plants and a couple of big schools of somthing like two lined pencilfish and kerri tetras.

putting a heater horisontal or at an angle is a bad idea, i think the idea is so that the thermostat doesnt read the hotter surface water right?
but if you have the heater horizontle or at an angle it is more likely for the top to over heat than for the bottom to under heat.
so with the heater you should keep it verticle with a current suchas a filter output passing over it, this gives a overall temperature in the tank and stops the top water from over heating, this is why on the heaters box says for it to be verticle.

Hmmmm I don't remember my heater box saying anything about weather it should be vertical or not? The picture on the front of the box though shows mine horizontally.

I thought the theory behind why it shouldn't be vertical though is that heat travels upwards.......... therefore the heated water around the heater travels upward to the control area where the thermostat is, telling the heater that the water is warm enough, so that the heater shuts off prematurely. Setting the heater in horizontally, the heated water travels upward away from the controls. so that the heater stays on & does it's job.

Someone will be along soon & referee.
........................................

I just found on this site where someone explained about heaters. This is it below:

"The reasons the submersible heaters are better? There are several. Not only the obvious as already stated, for hiding and such, but for many other reasons.

One important reason, if placed correctly, then no need to turn off the heater while doing water changes. Thus, no reason for a scare if you forget to turn off the heater. A HOB heater is highly e to crack if left on during water changes, especially if the temp is kept very much higher than the outside air temp. With the submersibles, they are placed so that they are always under the water, even during a water change.

Another reason is they heat the tank better, or more evenly than the HOB. The thing is, you place them at either a horizontal angle, or at least at a 45 degree angle. Heat rises. So the HOB heaters will turn on and off more often, because the heated water rises up to the thermometer switch in the top of it, and thus shuts off as if the water has been heated. But it has not. So then it turns back on, and so on. With the submersibles, if placed at the correct angle, the freshly heated water will rise past the thermometer switch, and thus the water will keep heating until the entire tank is heated to the correct level.

Another reason is, because you can place them anywhere in the tank, then you can place them in the flow of the current. Thus getting a better heating quality through out the tank. Where as the HOB heaters are limited placement.

One trick I have used them, is to place them in the gravel with a reverse flow UGF. It worked great, and was totally hidden, as I ran the cord down behind the HOB filter intake tube."

Thanks for the advice! I definately will be getting more plants, most likely after the holidays. I moved the plants from the upper portion of the driftwood and it does look better.

ah but if you have a filter outlet on the heater the temperature should be maintained evenly. so i guess either would ork if you have a good flow of water, so i think the best idea is to follow the instructions for your heater if it says vertical or horizontal.
ok were kinda steeling the thread with a debate about heaters.

i think a big anubias would look good right in the middle of the driftwood.
i dont think the other little ornaments mix well with the driftwood though.
