i heared about mixing sand or gravel with peat,iron and garden soil is this true ,how and what the benfits of it beside its cheap
(i already have sand and i can get peat,potted soil or garden soil and clay how can i mix them please give me input with numbers)


and can i use one of them only like peat or soil????

Here's a link to how to do it, the only drawback I see is it could get messy really easily when gravel vacing and rearranging plants would be next to impossible without clogging the filter. Most people are just using a ready-made substrate like eco-complete, laterite (under gravel) or flourite. Other people (myself included) just add the necessary ferts to the water column/substrate on a regular schedule.

Assuming it can be done why bother as the long term deep cleaning would always be a problem.

I think you will find many other well proven options that do work without having the same cleaning problem.
