These are often sold for betta bowls and such. They do well in aquariums as long as the entire plant is not submersed. In fact try to keep half or more of the plant out of water.

Is it actual bamboo or is it lucky bamboo? I have some lucky bamboo and I have been curious if I could put it in with my beta?

I thought lucky bamboo was real bamboo. I guess we'll have to wait for someone a bit more knowledgeable.

Well I think I have some lucky bamboo, and what I saw is at petco, they had it fully submerged into a tank with a bunch of either ghost shrimp or bamboo shrimp.

Lucky bamboo is actually part of the Lily family. It's scientific name is Dracaena Sanderana.

The bamboo they sell at pet stores is a draceana type, and it doesn't seem to mind being fully submerged, though it would probably prefer to be at least part out of the water. Be aware however that it will probably eventually grow out the top of the tank. It will grow quite tall when planted in a pot. It looks great sticking out of open top tanks!

It is not an Aquarium plant at all. Sorry, if correctly grown it can get very tall.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Why do aquatic stores sell non-aquatic plants? It must be very frustrating to have bought a plant for an aquarium then discover it is a terrestrial plant! The Big Al's here in Edmonton charges 3 times what I pay for the same plants at the same size at my LFS, and my LFS doesn't try to sell me non-aquatic plants but they are highly recommended at BA's. Go figure.
