Hi,
By growing algae, I presume you mean the "hair algae"
variety so that it will move and ripple in the aquarium
currents. IF you can isolate it only to the rock, it
would indeed be beautiful as it sways back and forth in
the currents. However, once you create the conditions
necessary for its growth, it will seem to grow everywhere
and soon be throughout the entire tank. It won't just
start on the rock, but will spring into being everywhere.
Then you will have to "fight" it back into the one place
you want it. As the currents cause the swaying, ends will
break off, and light somewhere else and in the nutrient
rich environment, will begin to grow wherever it lands.

Honestly, it could be a real headache, and very hard to
control. That being said, here is a site, normally used
to rid tanks of it, but if you encourage it, it will grow.

There are plenty of threads posted on wanting to remove algae especially Hair Algae. It is a very slow process to remove it or any other algae. Once you have it all you want to do is get rid of it.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

Try putting the rock in a container with water and leaving it sit under direct sunlight for a while. Then hope you get the right type of algae (like cladophora).

The light green soft fuzz can look good on rocks, gives them a niced aged look and shouldn't spread to plants (if you have any)

Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.
