You can use any of the plants that are tied to either DW or Rocks, Anubias and Jave fern are good for this type of aquscaping. With the 3x23/29 tank you have a "tad" over 2 watts per gallon and should be able to grow nearly any of the medium demand plants, and all of the low light plants, all without the injection of CO2. Go to the Arizona Gardens or Tropica websites and look through the various plants and plant packages that they offer. You don't necessarily need to purchase the plants from them but rather, write down those that will thrive in low to mid range light, and then keep an eye out for them as you visit your LFSs. Don't impulse buy. Chances are many of those in the stores will require more than you can give them. Stick with your list. With sand, especially at that depth, you do need to be careful that it does not compact and form areas of anaerobic bacteria that can foul the tank and even (in the extreme) kill the fish and plants. Put some of the Malaysian live bearing snails (MTS) in the tank. They will burrow through the sand and keep it loose. Also the addition of some of the Corrie catfish will keep the top sections loose. You will probably need to add some fertilizer to the tank, and Excel makes some really good stuff. What type depends upon the plants that you purchase. Also, what is it light temperature, in Kelvin (the K value)? Is part of the bulb blue? If the K is in a range that is not good for plants (like the blue bulbs) then it won’t do you any good. Ingo I just saw some 23 inches long PCs, but they have 65W. Last edited by LITTLE_FISH at 13-Jan-2006 04:19 ![]() |
