how much light does this plant need to grow, and would this plant be suitable for a 10 gallon? i know it likes to spread seeds to grow more but would it be trimmable and whats its usually height?

Hi,
Depending upon the type and amount of light and the fish
load, it should grow like a weed. I don't know about seeds
though, I thought it grew by branching off from its leaves.

Yea, i just figured it would be from seeds. You'd know more about it then me . I just figured it could be a good plant to cover up space.

I have it growing in my large tank. Being a floating plant it is right under the twin lightunit I have. Each week I toss some out as it can become a problem. It does grow like a weed and more if all the conditions are right. I have found out it prefers a soft water, little fert and plenty of light.

Have to admit Water Sprite is not one of my favorite plants. It grows very large and can do ok in low light.I would say it would grow too ig for a 10gal

It does spread by forming new plants on the leaf. If this is allowed to continue unchecked it will eventually disintegrate into a lot of smaller plants (the reason I don't like it). This can be controlled by trimming off the new plants as soon as they form.

It may work in a 10gal by trimming off the new plantlets and using them in the tank. But this is probably more work then the plant is worth IMO.

Water Wisteria might be a better option. They look similar and have similar light requirements but the Wisteria is much easier to control . If you have upwards of 1wpg you should be able to get away with the Wisteria.

Water Wisteria, Hygrophyla difformis, is currently residing in my Panda Breeding Aquarium™. And it's staging a campaign for world domination.

This plant is ridiculously easy to grow. However, because it is a proper rooted stem plant, controlling its tendency to pile on height and bushiness is easier to control than Water Sprite (which I know here in the UK as Indian Fern - Ceratopteris thalictroides).

Basically, you'll have to set to and do some gardening.
