I plan on getting a 200-300 gallon tank. I'm not completely decided on the size. I was wondering about filtration and heating. What filter(s) are appropriate for 300 gallons. Not looking for what types of filters, but rather brands and models. Also, what wattage do I need to heat a tank of this size?

I'm not sure about how I'm going to stock this, because I want to see if this size is do-able financially and such.

My initial thought is to go with a school of Silver Dollars, a small school of clown loaches, a couple bala sharks, 2 pairs of Angelfish, a Pleco, then ????

Any info would be appreciated.
thanks

eheim 2028 filters one at each end of the tank and as for heating The %Watts per gallon rule would mean a minimum of 3 300w heaters.

Gibson SG you know you want one!!

I found a great price on a new 300 gallon tank. While it seemed affordable, I realized that I'm only getting the TANK at the price quoted. So, I would have to puchase a hood, lighting, filter, heater, etc.

At this point, I'm basically clueless as far as how much the whole setup would cost, and everything I would need to buy or build to make this work.

While I'm not completely opposed to buying a used tank or accessories, I would have to be assured that the tank was leak proof. The advantage of buying a new one is that a tank that size would probably come with some type of warranty.

However, if the price is right, I may just look into getting a used one. I planned on checking Aquabid for pricing estimates. Luckily, since I'm not brave enough to do saltwater, it will be a little less expensive.

I also debated on going with 2 180 gallon tanks. Accessories for 180 gallon tanks seem easier to find and a little less expensive.
