Hi All,
I am planning to build my own aquarium cabinet.

Haven't done one before.

Hoping to make a nice one from pine, stain & varnish it.

Anyone got any plans or pictures or just basically HELP!

p.s. The wife says I can't do it, but now I see I have to prove her wrong.

Many Kindly Fishy Regards
Jason

basically it depends how you want it to look. the best method of weight transfer is to have your basic box design. having the top frame right on top of the supports leading to the bottom frame. this way screws arnt transferring weight around.

looking at my cabinet you will notice i didnt do it this way. that was because i wanted a hourglass look. so what i did was i made a top rectangle frame "around" the supports.
to prevent the weight from transferring through the screws i used half inch plywood as a shell. then cut it to fit tight between the top and bottom frame. this causes the entire shell to support the weight transferring it from the top to bottom.

anyway this is just one of many designs. you can go on google and prolly find many more. 2 biggest concerns to pay attention to is where is the weight going and how is it getting there. do not allow screws to support serious weight they will fail. the other is make sure to stay square. the better you do keeping it square the less shimming later to make it level.
