I have been offered a secondhand 7 foot tank.
I measured the area at home and 7 foot fits perfectly.
Only one problem...can two people lift a 7 foot tank?
Is it really difficult? I wouldn't want to be dropping it 5 mins after I paid for it.

Adam has a 6X2X2, it took professional movers and even then they were straining with it a bit. I'd figure a 7 would be as heavy.

Depending on what other issues might be involved (stairs, hills, narrow passage ways) you might want very good strong friends or consider a moving company that handles small local moves.

How did they lift it. What I mean is, one on each corner or does the middle have to be supported in some way?
Perhaps one on each end and one on either side in the middle?

*asks adam if he remembers*

He says there were 4 on the large tank, one on each corner, and I think one of them was following along behind coming up the stairs to spot. Granted we have very narrow stairs that have a bunch of turns involved.

When working at the LFS the biggest tank I as involved moving was a 220G. It took four of us to do it. I think the 220G was 6x2x2. Each of us had a corner.

Something smaller like a 125G two people could easily handle.

yup, 4 strong people to lift a 6x2x2, and I'd be tempted to put an extra pair in the middle on a 7, especially if it is less than 2' wide (which would be odd, but 7' sounds custom so you never know), not for the weight so much as to give some extra support.

Hi Bren,
"Lifting" it directly upward to get it started on its trip
is hard to do. One cannot just grab it by the sides and
heave upwards. I'd suggest four men, stand along one
side of the tank, and with pressure at the bottom,
have the four shove it side ways till there is about
a hands width of glass off the edge. Then have the
guys come around on that side and lift up to start taking
the weight off the stand. Once the tank is in the air they
should distribute themselves so that the tank is supported.
An extra two guys in the middle on the 7 ft tank may be a
really good idea to help prevent bowing.

It took 4 people to move my 5 foot tank & i can assure you that it was very heavy. I think that for a 7 foot tank, you'll be needing 6 persons.

Scrap the idea of a 7ft then. No only could we bust something(probably ourselves) but I don't think it will quite do the turn into the room I have for it, even if I take the door off its hinges.
Might keep a 4, 5 or 6ft more in mind maybe.

Well you could place it on a small boat and send it accross the pond. Ill be happy to make it fit somewhere
I'm not above ripping door frames off, slider door removal, or even bay window removal.
